ELMHURST-ENGLEWOOD HISTORY

The Elmhurst-Englewood neighborhood is located in an area of Greenville just east of Elm Street and south of the Norfolk Southern rail line. Most of the homes in this area were constructed in the 1950's, at a time when this location was just barely within the Greenville city limits. The location of Elmhurst Elementary School, the town's newest school at the time, was a drawing card making Elmhurst-Englewood a most desirable neighborhood for families and young children. E.B. Aycock, the former J.H. Rose High School (now C.M. Eppes Middle School), were added later, meaning that at one time, children living in this neighboorhood were within walking distance of their classes from first grade through their senior year in high school.

In the nearly half-century since the neighborhood's origins, the tree have matured and families have come and gone. The Elmhurst-Englewood neighborhood continues to be an attractive, quiet, safe, family oriented neighboorhoos for young and seniors alike.
